Thermite
Hi folks welcome to Lukes blog for the week and boy have we got some
exciting things happening but before we move on i recieved a letter this week
from a Mr B.McFadden from Sulphur Springs in Tx.
Mr Mcfadden wrote:
“Dear Luke i know that you know everything and i wanted to know what Thermite
sauce is and can i put it on my hot dog?
thanks
Brad”
Sounds like a nice boy doesn’t he,
No Brad, you can’t put it on your hotdog unless you want to end up in the
burns ward with prothsetic arms,allow me to explain;
Thermite is a two part powdered mixture consisting of one part
Iron Oxide and one part Aluminium Oxide.
The Aluminium Oxide when powdered finely can be ignited (it is used in fire works to make
to make the green colours) and it burns ferociously, when mixed with Iron Oxide(a glorified name for rust), the two are ignited with a heat source(usually a bar of red hot metal)
and a violent Thermic(heat) reaction takes place,the A/O ignites melting the I/O
and causing thermal expansion which results in a flowing river of molten iron
with a temprature of 2500 degrees celsius,a small amount(2 Pounds) will eat through
the engine block of a 2005 Dodge Charger in minutes or through the support columns
of tall buildings if your a conspiracy theorist, this is why i don’t recommend you putting
it on your hot dog,or your little sisters dollys.
Well Brad from Sulphur Springs in Tx i hope this has answered you question,
Feel free to write and ask me questions at MLM.org/Blogs/Downunder
Anyway thats the show for the week, hope you enjoyed yourself and
remember Luke says when playing with volatile substances…don’t tell ya mum.
Bye
