The Shack

My Crazy Hobbies No Comments »

I recently finished reading The Shack. My thoughts? Well, I don’t think that I can agree with Eugene Peterson’s endorsement on the front cover-I didn’t know Pilgrim’s Progress was so powerful-but it’s one of those books that make you think. Sure, there are plenty of things theologically wrong with this book. The God of this book is definitely not consistent with the God that we serve, love, and know from the Bible, but I wonder sometimes if we really can know what God is like? Maybe God is like Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia-just a little wild and not predictable. Maybe this is just a story about how God is willing to “go after the one” in a way that is surprising, but deeply personal and relevant for the main character in the book. Doesn’t God reach out to us in that way, personally, and in a way that we can relate to? I’m not saying that I agree with Young’s theology, but maybe we all need to be open about how the Lord might use this book to His Glory.

Enjoyable read, emotionally charged, and thought provoking. Just don’t park your brain at the door.

American Gladiators!!!!!!!

Tonight, as my wife curled up on the couch reading the latest Nicholas Sparks book, I took advantage of her being occupied and turned on the television, just looking to turn off my brain for a few hours after Youth Group and before I start my work week. After watching the republican debate on Fox News, I started to skim through the channels and happened across the premier of—-AMERICAN GLADIATORS!

About, two months ago, I was up late not able to sleep and found the original series on ESPN classic, a show that I was hooked on as a teenager, staying up late almost every Friday night. It was a great night of reliving the glory of those years. I knew the show was coming back, but I really wasnt looking forward to a more modern version….

BUT

As I watched I was thoroughly impressed with the show. It held true to the original series. The cinematography even matched the “amateurish” quality that the original series had. The events, very much the same events that held my attention so many years ago. I laughed, chuckled and was completely entertained for the next two hours. Great Job NBC!!!

My wife finished the book and I finished a stroll down memory lane….

My Niece, the Little Muffin Head

My Crazy Hobbies 3 Comments »

Blogging is fun! I know that I’ve been a slacker as of late, but hey, sometimes life happens. Its fun to get your thoughts out there for the world to see. It’s fun to get responses from that world at times as well. The internet can be a really cool place, sometimes. Its a place that we can find encouragement, humor, and even some spiritual insight at times. And if you’re looking for all those things I’d like to introduce you to my Niece:

The Little Muffin Head

This Little Muffin Head, as her mother calls her, is a very special girl. She has Hemi-plagia (a form of Cerebral Palsy). But she doesn’t let that stop her from doing a lot of things.

Check out this blog dedicated not only to the Little Muffin Head, but to parents, moms, and anyone who deals with those kids with special needs everyday. Share in my sister-in-laws joys and struggles, and give her a little love too.
