Thoughts on Gigavox Audio Lite
October 15th, 2007 Posted in PodcastThis week I play a voicemail from Winston of the Critical Mass podcast and talk about some issues I think content creators using free podcast hosting services will have to deal with. I’ve included a partial transcript:
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m part of the beta program to test GigaVox Audio Lite, a content management system for podcasts. It’s been really helpful for getting podcasts up in a short amount of time and providing an automated procedure for producing a show. I just record the show and it automatically appends the intro and outro for me.
I’ve been using GVAL regularly now for 3 months and I’m happy to report that I think this is a product that every podcaster should use. The recent sale of GVAL to Podango looks promising. Michael Geoghagan said that he’s
…excited to see how Podango and their team builds on our technology. They are passionate about podcasting and podcasters and with the integration of GigaVox Audio Lite into their P2 platform they will have a extremely attractive offering for publishers and a decisive advantage over their competition.
I have to admit that I am a bit concerned about whether or not I’ll be able to continue using GVAL, especially if Podango decides to charge for the product.
I’ve never used Podango but from what I’ve read they are using the same model as most other free-podcast-hosting sites out there: you can host for free and Podango gains revenue from ads inserted at the beginning and end of your podcast. According to their FAQ, you can choose the advertisers and you get paid monthly via PayPal. They pay in $100 increments. It’s not a bad model and I suppose the ad-insertion is being done via GVAL now, or it will be in the future.
I’ll be exploring this model and the other similar solutions available to podcasters all this week. I won’t actually be using them and running a full-blown test but I will report on my findings and let you know what I think.

I am currently enrolled and nearing completion of an on-line podcast course (8 weeks) hosted by Jason Van Orden. I’ve been learning plenty of information on the do’s and don’t of starting my own podcast show and stumbled across this page in the process.
I am a fellow BELIEVER and one of the Faithfuls in Christs kingdom in this “flesh” oriented world. I thought to drop a line to commend you for standing for TRUTH my brother!
In the hopes that we’ll stay in touch -
