Google Street View Then & Now

July 10th, 2008 Posted in Blog Post | No Comments »

Google Street View is an excellent resource if you want to see what the streets look like where you’re going when you get directions. However, sometimes things change and they can sometimes change quickly and dramatically. Take this intersection near where I work, for example:

BEFORE
Before

AFTER
After

Also note the satellite view:
Empac satellite

What’s missing? Just this:
EMPAC-old

And here’s a photo from today:
EMPAC-new

I’m not sure when the satellite photo was taken. I can tell you that the street view images were taken about 1 year ago. This construction will be completed in 2 months and the entire landscape will be completely different. Street view is nice but I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up with the ever-changing face of the American landscape.

I’m so Blue

July 8th, 2008 Posted in Podcast | 1 Comment »

This week’s podcast is recorded using my new Blue Snowflake USB microphone. I still have some tweaks to make and have to account for the fact that it picks up more ambient noise than my USB headset but I think the audio is better despite the fact that the stupid fan on my Macbook went nuts on me! Dang you GarageBand ‘08 for taxing more resources! Look for a review of the mic in an upcoming blog post and/or podcast as well as some commentary as to why I think the iLife ‘08 upgrade was a big waste of money.

This week’s show notes:

Podcasting Schedule for July & August

June 30th, 2008 Posted in Blog Post, News | 2 Comments »

I just wanted to drop a post about my podcasting schedule for the next two months. Here’s what it’s going to look like:

  • All podcasts will be released on TUESDAY this month. That means this week’s podcast will come out tomorrow.
  • There will be no podcast on July 28th. It’s the week after the Geek’s & God Web 2.0 Conference and I’m sure I’ll be pooped.
  • August will feature the three sessions I’m hosting from the Geek’s & God Web 2.0 Conference (I hope). We’re planning on recording them but we can’t be 100% about that. I do plan on at least recording my sessions while I’m speaking but cannot guarantee the quality of that audio.
  • I’m thinking about doing a LIVE show via TalkShoe so if that is of interest to you, please contact me and let me know. I’m actually thinking about doing one live show with an interviewee so that you can ask him questions. This is new territory for me so no guarantees that I’ll be able to pull this off.

Well, that’s it. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to drop me line via the contact for above or by sending email to geek {at} jesusgeek {dot} info.

Bye-Bye Twitter Tools

June 27th, 2008 Posted in Blog Post | No Comments »

I’d been using Alex King’s Twitter Tools plug-in to display my tweets in the sidebar for a few months now. Due to the horrendous performance issues Twitter is having it’s caused my blog to hang at times. So in order to improve performance I’ve temporarily disabled the plug-in. As rockin’ as Alex’s plug-ins are, even he can’t get around the Twitter problems.
