MC #62 REMEMBER 9/11/2001

September 11th, 2007 by micharlie

“REMEMBER 9/11/2001”
The September 11, 2001 attacks consisted of a series of coordinated terrorist suicide attacks by Islamic extremists on that date upon the United States of America.

That morning nineteen terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. Each team of hijackers included a trained pilot. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners (United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 11) into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into each tower, resulting in the collapse of both buildings soon afterward and irreparable damage to nearby buildings. The hijackers crashed a third airliner (American Airlines Flight 77) into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. Passengers and members of the flight crew on the fourth aircraft (United Airlines Flight 93) attempted to retake control of their plane from the hijackers; that plane crashed into a field near the town of Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania. In addition to the 19 hijackers, 2,974 people died as an immediate result of the attacks, and the death of at least one person from lung disease was ruled by a medical examiner to be a result of exposure to WTC dust. Another 24 people are missing and presumed dead. The victims were predominantly civilians.

GREAT post… I remember what I was doing the day it happened. I had just walked out of a house where i had installed a phone line and 4 jacks. The kicker for me was that they came from the same country as our attackers. NEVER DID LIKE WORKING IN CARROLLTON any way.
I had a hard time listning to it all at once so i had to break it up a bit.

9/11/2001 is a day I too will never forget! For a good part of my life I volunteered as a Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, CPR & First Aid instructor and well as dove with the Delta County Sheriffs Department dive team. I was one of those first responder just as those in New York, DC and PA, they belonged to a special band of men and women, and I am proud of each of them.

I was at the National Fire Academy with two of those that died that day doing what they did best, protecting life and property! I morn their loss and the pain their families had to endure!

We as a nation must never forget that the war was taken to our front door! It was not a military attack, but one on every day men and women, just doing their jobs! Fleet Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto of Japan is reported to have made the statement “We have awaken a sleeping giant!’ on the attack on Pearl Harbor, well the sleeping giant is again awake!

    We must never forget!
