MC #71 Do NOT LET YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED!
November 26th, 2007 by micharlie
“Do not let your hearts be troubledâ€
This week rave is dedicated to a new friend we made in May 2007 while in Madison, WI with our son Bill. We where staying at the city camp ground when this guy pulling in with a neat looking tri-cycle. While visiting with him we learned his name was Phil Jacobus, and that he was a Christian and was familiar with the U.P. as he was involved with the UP Bible Camp which is 45 miles north of us here in Gladstone.
Phil also has had many trials in his life haven been diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer, with a lesion on his right shoulder in the spring of 2004. By June, the lesion had been surgically removed, and a clean bill of health was issued with check ups to be done every three months for 1 1/2 years and then every 6 months to date. Then on December 18, 2006 chest x-ray revealed suspicious nodules in both lungs. A CT scan was completed on Dec. 26 which confirmed the chest x-ray showing 2 tumors in the right lung and one in the left lung. In addition, 3 tumors were found on the liver. All are comparatively small at this at this time with the largest being about the size of a nickel. Melanoma is a very aggressive cancer that typically spreads through the lymph nodes or blood system to the lungs, liver and brain. When it enters these organs, it is consider Stage IV. Statistical Life Expectancy for this is 6-9 months. There is no cure. However, the possibility of one or more clinical trials for treatment to shrink tumors or possibly even extend life expectency may exist, but success rates are typically only 5-10%. Phil has a bog to serve as a continuing update for family, friends, and people that are continuing on in their support of Phil and his wife Connie, or their own or loved one’s battle with cancer.

In his entry for November 17, 2007 he wrote “It seems like there are some Scripture verses in the Psalms about a “troubled heart or soul,” but I cannot think of them now and do not have time to search. But I do know that the Gospel of John, Chapter 14, starts out with Jesus saying: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. May I encourage each one of you to read all of John, Chapter 14. It gives me great comfort, peace and assurance. (Only 31 verses.) Jesus says again near the end of the chapter: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Following Phil’s recommendation I read though John 14 and felt once again the Holy Spirit fill me. Over the past few months we all here at the MLM Family have had many trials in ours lifes!
This passage hit home once again that what we as Christian have that those in the world do not have - HOPE! Jesus not only gave his life on the cross for us, was raised, and now is preparing a place for us in His Father Home with many rooms! A place where we will spend eternity with our living God.
John 14:1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” 14:5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” 14:8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” 14:9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, `Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. 12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. 14:15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever– 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” 14:22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” 14:23 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. 14:25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. 14:28 “You heard me say, `I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. 30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, 31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave.
Well until next time this MI Charlie wishing each of you a God Blessed week.

MC #70 IDOLS
November 20th, 2007 by micharlie
IDOLS
Exodus 20:4 – 6 tells us “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Do you have idols in your life? Come one look real hard. Have you ever stayed home from church so you can go to a sporting event! Or skipped out on a small group Bible study to go to a movie that every one is talking about? How about buying a new fishing boat, just because you buddy got one. Maybe it’s that new computer you have drooled over and finally bought! These can all be idols.
1 John 5:21 - Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
How can we avoid idols?
First ask God to search your heart and show you any idols you may have as you evaluate your life and your worship of God. Psalm 139:23 – 24 tells us - Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Next we must confess our sins to God in Psalms 51:3 - 4 - Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.Next we have to repent as we are told in Ezekiel 14:6 - “Therefore say to the house of Israel, `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices!
Lastly we need to remove the possibility of idol worship. I do not mean that we are not to enjoy God world from a fishing boat, or that we should not watch a sporting event on TV. Like all things in life we must use moderation in what we are doing. Keeping our eyes always turned to Jesus. On Thursday we here in the United States will celebrate the National Holiday of Thanksgiving. This holiday was begun many years ago, even before we where a nation, with the Pilgrims. It was a no again off again thing until the Continental Congress in 1777 proclaimed:
IN CONGRESS
November 1, 1777
FORASMUCH as it is the indispensable Duty of all Men to adore the superintending Providence of Almighty God; to acknowledge with Gratitude their Obligation to him for Benefits received, and to implore such farther Blessings as they stand in Need of: And it having pleased him in his abundant Mercy, not only to continue to us the innumerable Bounties of his common Providence; but also to smile upon us in the Prosecution of a just and necessary War, for the Defense and Establishment of our unalienable Rights and Liberties; particularly in that he hath been pleased, in so great a Measure, to prosper the Means used for the Support of our Troops, and to crown our Arms with most signal success:
It is therefore recommended to the legislative or executive Powers of these UNITED STATES to set apart THURSDAY, the eighteenth Day of December next, for SOLEMN THANKSGIVING and PRAISE: That at one Time and with one Voice, the good People may express the grateful Feelings of their Hearts, and consecrate themselves to the Service of their Divine Benefactor; and that, together with their sincere Acknowledgments and Offerings, they may join the penitent Confession of their manifold Sins, whereby they had forfeited every Favor; and their humble and earnest Supplication that it may please GOD through the Merits of JESUS CHRIST, mercifully to forgive and blot them out of Remembrance; That it may please him graciously to afford his Blessing on the Governments of these States respectively, and prosper the public Council of the whole: To inspire our Commanders, both by Land and Sea, and all under them, with that Wisdom and Fortitude which may render them fit Instruments, under the Providence of Almighty GOD, to secure for these United States, the greatest of all human Blessings, INDEPENDENCE and PEACE: That it may please him, to prosper the Trade and Manufactures of the People, and the Labor of the Husbandman, that our Land may yield its Increase: To take Schools and Seminaries of Education, so necessary for cultivating the Principles of true Liberty, Virtue and Piety, under his nurturing Hand; and to prosper the Means of Religion, for the promotion and enlargement of that Kingdom, which consisteth “in Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost.”
And it is further recommended, That servile Labor, and such Recreation, as, though at other Times innocent, may be unbecoming the Purpose of this Appointment, be omitted on so solemn an Occasion.
So lets keep our eyes on Jesus and off the Idols!
Well until next time this MI Charlie wishing each of you a God Blessed week.

MC #69 PRAISE & THANKSGIVING!
November 16th, 2007 by micharlie
“PRAISE & THANKSGIVINGâ€
1 Thessalonians 5:16 – 18 - Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. .
.
On September 28, 1789, just before leaving for recess, the first Federal Congress passed a resolution asking that the President of the United States recommend to the nation a day of thanksgiving. A few days later, President George Washington issued a proclamation naming Thursday, November 26, 1789 as a “Day of Publick Thanksgivin” - the first time Thanksgiving was celebrated under the new Constitution. Subsequent presidents issued Thanksgiving Proclamations, but the dates and even months of the celebrations varied. It wasn’t until President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Proclamation that Thanksgiving was regularly commemorated each year on the last Thursday of November. .

.
James 1:17 – 18 - Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. .
.
Adam Clarke’s Commentary on the Bible.
Adam Clarke, LL.D., F.S.A., (1715-1832) .
.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above - Whatever is good is from God; whatever is evil is from man himself. As from the sun, which is the father or fountain of light, all light comes; so from God, who is the infinite Fountain, Father, and Source of good, all good comes. And whatever can be called good, or pure, or light, or excellence of any kind, must necessarily spring from him, as he is the only source of all goodness and perfection. .
Judges 5:3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel. .
1Chronicles 16:4 And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to record, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel: ..
Praise to God for: Jesus Christ who gave His life so that I may have eternal life in heaven. My wife Sherry, who is also my soul mate, confidant, and above all my care giver! The healing grace God has given me.1 Chronicles 16:35 And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise.
Well until next time this MI Charlie wishing each of you a God Blessed week.
